If you're following a perfect skincare regime but struggling to get great skin, it could be that you're not factoring in your active lifestyle.
We've uncovered the top 5 mistakes made by active women.
Addressing these errors could be the last remaining issue between you and your dream skin!
Mistake #01: Touching your face whilst working out
Transferring bacteria from exercise machines, weights and yoga mats to your face is a sure-fire recipe for disaster.
Don't do it!
And don't just take our word for it, fitness guru Kayla Itsines recently revealed on Instagram that she never does it. You'll never spot her touching dirty gym equipment like treadmill handles and then her face, nor will she ever use the same towel that she's used on a weights bench to wipe her face.
Makes sense now you think about it, huh?!
Mistake #02: Wearing makeup whilst working out
Let your skin "breathe".
Sweating helps your pores open up, releasing dirt and impurities.
You don't want makeup mixing with sweat and clogging your pores.
This is particularly important with oil-based makeup as it doesn't wash off easily and is, therefore, more likely to clog up pores. This can block the natural sebum flow, causing a build-up and can lead to whiteheads and inflammatory red spots.
If you do wear oil-based makeup, we definitely advise giving you a skin a good cleanse before you sweat.
Mistake #03: Using harsh scrubs and skincare products after you sweat
You need to be super gentle with your skin after exercising.
If you've been sweating hard you might feel the burning desire to give yourself an intense deep-clean, but now is not the time for scrubs or harsh soaps - these strip the skin of its natural oils.
Instead, look for natural, SLS-free soaps and cleansers, calming and gentle ingredients and formulations.
Your aim is to cleanse the skin without exacerbating any redness or irritation.
Mistake #04: Not cleansing post-workout.
Whilst sweating itself is vital, letting sweat sit on your skin for a prolonged period of time can be problematic.
The sodium in sweat can irritate and further dehydrate the skin.
Always, always cleanse your skin soon after you sweat.
Mistake #05: Staying in your activewear after your workout.
Get out of your sweaty clothes ASAP.
Just like mistake #04 above, the sweat left to sit against your skin after exercise can cause skin problems.
We love athleisure as much as the next person, but that doesn’t mean you should actually keep your sweaty activewear on for brunch!
To avoid breakouts on your chest or back, get out of your gym gear and into the shower.
There are no rules against putting on a fresh new pair of leggings and gym top afterwards.
