Charlotte Purdue

Charlotte Purdue: Professional long-distance runner

How was 2022 for you? 2022 was a mixed year for me. I ran well at Boston Marathon in April but then unfortunately got sick for London in October. But I was still happy with the training I got done!

What are your plans for 2023? In 2023 my main goal is to qualify for Paris 2024. So I need to run a fast marathon this year.

Are there any women in your life who inspire you? I’m inspired everyday by different people around the world. I love watching other sports too.

How was 2022 for you? 2022 was excellent with a World Champs 2nd place but also challenging with a big trauma accident (bicycle vs car).

What are your plans for 2023? In 2023 I hope to return to the Ironman World Champs to podium.

Are there any women in your life who inspire you? My friends are a constant source of my inspiration, women and men.

Wendy Searle polar explorer

Wendy Searle: Polar guide

How was 2022 for you? 2022 was a big transition year for me. It was my first full year working as a guide and it was very busy! I also attempted a world record in Antarctica. It didn’t turn out as I’d planned, but I was able to climb Antarctica’s highest mountain while I was there! It’s made me think more about big mountains.

What are your plans for 2023? I’m taking my youngest son to Kilimanjaro this year, and I’m hoping to focus a bit more on my own climbing.

Are there any women in your life who inspire you? My mum really inspires me - she’s had to do a lot on her own, but she’s still out having adventures and taking on new challenges. There are very few women who are polar guides, even fewer who have children. We look out for each other. I look to them for how to navigate a career in adventure with family.
